Control Packs

A journal approved by the person who entered it. A journal entered by someone who left in August. Each one gets through close, and it surfaces a year later. Control Packs tests your close, approval and access controls on your own exports and ranks what it finds by dollars, $550 for your organization.

Stone columns in a row, close up
What it tests

Ten tests, three packs.

Built for Workday Financials exports. Other systems work where the columns map.

  1. CCClose ControlsEntered or approved by someone who had already left. Entered and approved by the same person. Entered after its period closed. A likely duplicate. A round manual amount at or above your review line, with no memo5 TESTS
  2. APApprovalA manual journal posted with no approval on record, and one approver carrying too much of the period2 TESTS
  3. ACAccessPeople who left and still hold a security group, one person holding both halves of a conflict pair you name, and an approval role with only one holder3 TESTS
What a run gives you

One headline, every journal counted once.

A one page summary, a workbook of every finding ranked by dollars, a removal list for your security administrator, and a run file for next month. Findings you close with a reason stay closed.

Dollars are exposure, not a loss. Access findings are counted, never priced.

How it runs

On your computer, from your files.

You export the reports, run one command, and read the results. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is written back to any system.

It needs Python 3.10 or newer, which most Macs offer to install the first time you ask for it. The download includes a made-up sample, so you can see a full run in two minutes before you touch your own data.

Built from public documentation and Mel's own judgment, never from a client engagement. Report names differ by tenant, so confirm on yours which report gives each file.

Questions

Before you buy, in plain answers.

What does Control Packs test?

Ten tests in three packs. Close Controls flags journals entered or approved by someone who had left, journals the same person entered and approved, journals entered after their period closed, likely duplicates, and round manual amounts with no memo. Approval flags manual journals posted with no approval and one approver carrying too much of the period. Access flags people who left and still hold a security group, people holding both halves of a conflict pair you name, and approval roles with one holder.

What do I need to run it?

Python 3.10 or newer on the computer you run it from, and your journal, approval and worker exports as CSV files. Security group and role exports add the Access pack. Nothing else to install.

Does anything leave my computer?

No. It reads your files on your own computer and writes its results next to them. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is written back to any system. Worker IDs are shown by default, not names.

What do I get for $550?

The tool, a made-up sample to try it on, and plain setup steps, under one organization license for twelve months with updates. Renewal is $165 a year.

Where should I start if I am not sure this fits?
